Global Entrepreneurship Conferenence

Objectives

The objectives of the conference are three fold:

  • To discuss opportunities and programs aimed towards promoting entrepreneurship in various Universities across the world.
  • To facilitate a dispersion of ideas globally that shall help refine the established support ecosystem. Participation of entrepreneurship promoting bodies across the country shall help put the ideas discussed to practice.

  • To understand the global scenario of entrepreneurship and innovation and highlight fields of entrepreneurial activity from experts all around the world.

  • To discuss possible changes in policy based on inputs from Funding Organisations.

Topics to be addressed:

  1. Unique and innovative support programs established for student and alumni entrepreneurs by the University.

  2. Inputs for promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst students in developing countries.
  3. Flaws and inadequacies in established system and how to overcome them.
  4. Other points of elaboration short listed by panel after going through the Information Dossier of each country.
  5. Changes that can help Entrepreneurs fare better with Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors based on their inputs.

University Representative Panel:

  1. The University Representative Panel shall constitute of:
    1. Honourable Faculty members well versed in policy making and setting up of programs for entrepreneurship promotion within the University.
    2. Successful Students and/or Alumni Entrepreneurs who shall exemplify the success of the established ecosystem in place.
    3. Student Coordinators of the Entrepreneurship Promoting Organisation at University to highlight their activities and its impact.
  2. Conference can accomodate only one representative panel per University, which shall represent the country it is a part of.
  3. Students and entrepreneurs can be a part of the live audience for questioning and participation.

Executive Panel:

  1. The Executive Panel shall constitute of:
    1. Non Academic Policy makers/ Heads of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Support Organisations/ Heads of Funding Organisations.
    2. At least one Beneficiary of the system i.e. an Innovator or Entrepreneur.
  2. The Conference can accomodate only one Executive Panel per Organisation chapter.

The Indian Panel:

The Indian Panel shall comprise of Honourable Faculty involved in promotion of entrepreneurship across the country, successful student and alumni entrepreneurs, established entrepreneurs, leading Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors and finally IIT Kharagpur administration. Student coordinators of Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur shall serve as moderators.

Preliminary submissions:

  1. Members of the University Representative and Executive Panel and their profiles.
  2. Information Dossier : A report [maximum 4 pages] on the setup ecosystem in University to assist potential entrepreneurs.

Format of Conference:

  • The conference shall be split into individual video conferencing sessions of 1 hour with each participating country.
  • Each session shall be moderated with the following sequence:
    • Opening introduction by moderator of panel on both sides: 5 mins.
    • Opening note by Honourable Faculty/Chief Executive Panelist on International Panel : 10 mins
    • Discussion on points of elaboration based onInformation Dossier with inputs from Entrepreneurs: 30 mins
    • Discussion on impact of system, Open Q/A round and closing note by moderator: 15 mins
  • Final Schedule of Conference will be based on various countries and will be made available by 10th January 2010.

     

Technical Details:

  • Video conference will be through IP facility.
  • A test run must be carried out to check robustness of connection by 12 th January, 2010.

Start-up Camp

Want to be a part of a path-breaking venture? Are you looking for an internship which would provide you with an enriching experience?

Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2010 plays host to Startup Camp which would serve as a platform that connects the best startups of the country to students and VC’s. Startup Camp would witness participation of 10 of the best Startups in the country who would showcase their product/services to students and VCs.

These startups would provide college students a unique opportunity to work with them as a full time employee or as an intern. In addition, the participating startups would get a chance to pitch their ideas to prominent VC’s of the country, thus giving an impetus to their venture.

Other benefits will be finding appropriate partners and networking. It also serves as a platform of motivation and valuable learning for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Dominique Trempont

Dominique Trempont Mr. Trempont worked very closely with Steve Jobs as CFO of NeXT and turned around the company. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Finisar Corporation, a position he has held since September 2005.  Finisar is a public company that develops and markets optical components and modules for network equipment vendors, instruments and software for communications designers and products and services for large enterprise storage networks. Mr. Trempont also serves on the Board of Directors, and Chairs the Audit Committee, of Energy Recovery, Inc., a public company that helps water desalination plants recycle energy used in the desalination process. Mr. Trempont was CEO-in-Residence at Battery Ventures, a venture capital firm, from September 2003 to September 2005. Prior to Battery Ventures, Mr. Trempont was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kanisa, Inc., a software company focused on customer self-service, contact center and peer support applications, from May 1999 to November 2002. Mr. Trempont has served as Chief Executive Officer of Gemplus Corporation, a smart card application company, and Chief Financial Officer at NeXT Software. Mr. Trempont began his career at Raychem Corporation, a high-tech material science company focused on the telecommunication, electronics and automotive industries, including holding the position of Chief Audit Officer. Mr. Trempont received an undergraduate degree in Economics from College St. Louis (Belgium), a bachelor's in Business Administration and Computer Sciences from IAG at the University of Louvain (Belgium) and a master's in Business Administration from INSEAD.
